Seed technology is the method through which the genetic and physical character of seed could be improved.
It involves activity sach as variety development, evaluation and release sheed production, processing, storage and certification.

India is the best country with variety soil and has got different climatic zones enabling year around year cultivation of crops.
Most seed crop are grown in kharif and most of the vegetables crops are produced in rabi.
The seed technology department was initiated throughout the country with the following objectives:-
1. To teach seed technology course.
2. Research on seed production, processing and testing.
3. To strengthen the seat Technologyseed.
4. To give training to those who are involved in seed production, processing,testing etc.
Goals of seed technology
1. Rapid multiplication:- to increase agriculture production.
2. Timely supply:- new varieties must be available in time.
3. Assured high quality of seed:- good vigour and viability.
4. Reasonable price:- cost of seed must below to reach the average farmer.
Role of seed Technology
1. Improved seed- carrier new technology.
In India the cultivation of high yield variety has helped to increase food production from 52 million turns to nearly 180 million tonnes over a period of 40 years.
It is also a carrier of biotechnological innovations.
2. Improved seed- a basic tool for secured food supply.
In India the successful implementation of high yield variety has led to A Remarkable increase in production and food import from other country countries have been brought downspit of rapid increase in population.
Dwarf and high yield variety and hybrid crop has increased the production and productivity which has led to potential development of a country.
3. Improved seed- the principle means to serve crop yield in less favourable areas of production.
